About the library

The Kpopless library is curated specifically for the daily guessing game format. Every song in the library has an Apple Music preview clip available. This is required for the game to work. The library is updated regularly, with monthly batches of new tracks added across all active artists and generations.

1st Generation (1992–2003)

The founding era of K-pop, built around the idol system developed by SM Entertainment and other early agencies. Tracks from this era have a distinctive synth-pop and R&B sound.

2nd Generation (2003–2012)

The era that brought K-pop to international audiences across Asia and beyond. BIGBANG, Girls' Generation, and SHINee defined this period with polished production and synchronized choreography.

4th Generation (2018–present)

The current wave, groups built for social media, with shorter promo cycles and bolder artistic concepts. NewJeans, IVE, and aespa represent the cutting edge of K-pop's sound and visual style.

How songs are selected for the daily game

Every song in the library is eligible to appear as a daily puzzle, but not all appear equally often. The daily selection algorithm:

  • Avoids repeating the same artist twice in one daily set of three songs
  • Reduces the chance of recently used songs appearing again too soon
  • Balances between well-known tracks and deeper catalogue B-sides
  • Uses the same date-based seed for every player worldwide, same songs, same order

Songs without an available Apple Music preview are skipped by the algorithm. Newly added songs begin appearing in daily sets as soon as they're added to the library.

Requesting a song

If a song you want to see isn't in the library yet, you can request it through the contact page or by messaging @kpopless on Twitter. Include the song title, artist name, and release year. Songs need to have an Apple Music preview to be eligible, most major and mid-tier releases do.

New songs are added in monthly batches. The blog documents exactly which tracks are added each month and why.
