Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how Kpopless works — gameplay, the song library, scoring, audio sourcing, and privacy.
Gameplay basics
What is Kpopless?
A free daily K-pop music guessing game. Three song puzzles a day: press play, hear a short clip, try to name it before you run out of attempts. The clip gets longer with each wrong guess or skip. There's also an Album Guess mode where you identify an album from its cover art, revealed in fragments.
How many guesses do I get per song?
Six. Clip lengths go 1s → 2s → 4s → 7s → 10s → 10s. Skipping is free and doesn't count as a guess; it just gets you more audio without costing an attempt.
What does skipping do, exactly?
Moves you to the next, longer clip without spending a guess. It's free. Most players skip at least once on songs they don't immediately recognise rather than burn a guess on a hunch that's only maybe right.
When does Kpopless reset?
Midnight London time: GMT in winter (October–March), BST/GMT+1 in summer (March–October). That's 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific, 8 AM KST the following day.
Do all players worldwide get the same songs?
Yes, same three songs, same day, everyone. That's what makes comparing scores and sharing results actually meaningful instead of just noise.
What are the different game modes?
Four: General (any song from the full 2,000+ track library), Boy Groups, Girl Groups, and Album Guess (identify a K-pop album from cover art revealed in pieces). Each mode has its own daily selection; they don't share songs.
Is there an endless or practice mode?
Not right now. The three daily puzzles are the core of it, and the shared-songs structure is kind of the point; it's what makes posting your score next to someone else's score actually mean something.
Song library
How many songs are in the library?
Over 2,000 songs from more than 200 artists, spanning all four K-pop generations. New songs are added every month; the blog documents which tracks were added and why.
Does Kpopless have BTS songs?
Yes. BTS have a substantial presence in the library across all eras. Solo releases from individual members (RM, Jin, Suga/Agust D, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) are also included.
Why can't I find a specific song in the search?
If a song doesn't appear in the autocomplete, it's not in the library yet. The most common reasons: Apple Music doesn't have a usable preview for it, the artist isn't in the library, or the song is very recent. Use the contact page to suggest it.
Can I suggest songs to add?
Yes, use the contact page. The main limiting factor is whether Apple Music has a usable 30-second preview available for the track. Songs without a usable preview can't be added, regardless of how good they are.
Are B-sides included or only title tracks?
Both. The library deliberately includes a mix of title tracks and B-sides. Getting a B-side right on the first guess is one of the more satisfying things the game can do.
Does the library cover all four K-pop generations?
Yes. 1st gen acts (H.O.T, S.E.S, Fin.K.L), 2nd gen (BIGBANG, Girls' Generation, SHINee, 2NE1), 3rd gen (BTS, EXO, TWICE, BLACKPINK, Red Velvet, NCT), and current 4th gen (aespa, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, ENHYPEN, TXT).
Technical & account
Do I need an account to play?
No account, no signup, no email required. Just open the site and play. Your results are saved in your browser's local storage.
My results disappeared. What happened?
Results are stored in your browser's localStorage. If you cleared your browser data, used a private/incognito window, switched browsers, or switched devices, they won't carry over. There's no server-side account system, so cleared results can't be recovered.
Does Kpopless work on mobile?
Yes. It's fully responsive and works on iOS and Android. On mobile, audio won't play automatically; you need to tap the play button. This is a browser-level restriction on mobile devices that the game can't override.
Why isn't the audio playing?
Make sure your device isn't muted, try tapping the play button directly, and check your browser isn't blocking media. If audio still won't play, try Chrome or Firefox on desktop — they're the most reliable.
I typed the correct answer but it wasn't accepted. Why?
Always select from the autocomplete dropdown rather than typing a full answer manually. This ensures the exact format matches. Some songs have Korean and English title variants; if one version isn't showing up, try the other.
How do I report a bug?
Use the contact page. Include what happened, which browser and device you were using, and a screenshot if possible.
Scoring & sharing
How does scoring work?
Your score for each song is the attempt number on which you got it right. A 1 means first guess (best possible), a 6 means sixth guess, and X means you didn't get it within six attempts. Lower is better.
What's the guess distribution chart?
After completing all three songs, the guess distribution shows how your performance compares to all other players who finished that puzzle that day. A song where 75% guessed in one go was easy; a song where most players needed five or six attempts was genuinely hard.
How do I share my result without spoiling the song?
The shareable result card uses coloured blocks rather than song titles — the same format Wordle popularised. Copy and paste it to Twitter, Discord, or wherever. No song names are included.
Audio & copyright
Where does the audio come from?
All clips come through the Apple Music API — licensed preview clips provided through Apple's developer program. Kpopless doesn't host, store, or redistribute audio files. The music belongs to the artists and their labels.
Why does the clip start in the middle of the song?
Apple Music preview clips often start at the chorus or another hook rather than the very beginning. That's Apple's choice about which part to preview. For many songs it's actually better — the hook is the most recognisable part.
Is Kpopless affiliated with Apple Music, any K-pop label, or Songless?
No affiliations. Kpopless uses the Apple Music API (like thousands of other developer apps) but has no partnership with Apple. It isn't affiliated with Songless, Heardle, HYBE, SM, JYP, YG, or any entertainment company. It's an independent fan project.
How do I submit a DMCA takedown request?
See the Copyright & DMCA page for the full takedown process. Since all audio is served via the Apple Music API, music-specific concerns may also be directed to Apple regarding their preview terms.
Privacy & data
Does Kpopless track me?
Kpopless uses Google Analytics (aggregate traffic data) and Google AdSense (ads). A cookie consent banner lets you accept or decline before any tracking starts. Your game results are stored locally in your browser only; they're never sent to any server.
Is my data sold to third parties?
No. See the Privacy Policy for a full breakdown of what's collected, how it's used, and your rights under GDPR and equivalent legislation.
